Aloe-emodin attenuates hyperuricemia and renal injury in mice

This study aims to investigate the therapeutic effects of AOE on HUA and renal injury, together with the underlying mechanism. Treatment with AOE significantly reduced serum UA levels, and inhibited xanthine oxidase and adenosine deaminase activities through hydrogen bonds. Moreover, AOE reversed the renal function parameters (as shown by serum creatinine, and blood urea nitrogen levels), restore the integrity of renal tissue structure, and mitigate the inflammatory response and oxidative stress in HUA mice. This study demonstrated that AOE was a promising natural candidate with desirable safety profile for HUA and renal injury.
