This review article describes a method by which hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) may be expanded ex vivo using autologous endothelial cells in place of stromal cells hitherto used as feeder cells in culture. The method proposed promises to boost expansion of HSCs to produce long-term repopulating cells that may be used for effective patient therapy.
