Methodological study data set of land snails from the Dolina 2007 project

We surveyed 16 dolines at the Alsó-hegy plateau of the Aggtelek National Park, northern Hungary, August 16--18, 2007. The plateau and the dolines were forested and mainly covered by hornbeam (Carpinus betulus) and beech (Fagus sylvatica). The dolines were 0.5--2 hectares in extent. We collected land snails from four different microhabitat types: litter, live wood, dead wood (i.e. coarse woody debris), and rock. The litter microhabitat was sampled with seven replicates along a north--south transect in each doline, while all other microhabitat types were sampled with three replicates within each doline. We collected 1 L of litter per replicate (litter sampling) and employed a time restricted search (five minutes per replicate) in a 1 m radius around the litter sample location. Litter samples were taken from the bottom of live trees, dead trees and rocks. Altogether, 32 samples (16 litter + 16 timed) were taken per doline. This data set is the full data set from the first two dolines processed till the date of distribution.
