资源简介:
The project will focus on the continuation of the successful delivery of the Regional Landcare Facilitator in southern Tasmania. The RLF will plan and initiate activities that will achieve the outcomes listed in the Role of the Regional Landcare Facilitator (2013-18). In particular, the Southern Tasmanian RLF will continue to contribute to developing a skilled and capable landcare community in the region and will contribute to the Caring for our Country (Sustainable Agriculture stream) outcomes. The project will encompass NRM South’s delivery of the strategic five-year outcomes for the Sustainable Agriculture stream through its local facilitation network in priority sub-regions (see 3.5) and partnership arrangements (formal and informal) with key organisations such as local councils, the Tasmanian Institute of Agriculture, the Department of Primary Industries, Parks, Water and Environment, the Tasmanian Farmers and Graziers Association and other specific producer groups, Tasmanian Irrigation; and landcare community relationships such as Landcare Tasmania and its affiliated groups. Existing partnerships with Indigenous community will be continued and new partnerships will be actively developed. Key activities will seek to increase landholder participation in NRM South’s successful regenerative agriculture program for improved farm productivity from practice change to achieve healthy soils and sustainable groundcover. With the further development of irrigation schemes in southern Tasmania, NRM South will work with Tasmanian Irrigation, the Tasmanian Institute of Agriculture and irrigators to ensure the adoption of sustainable irrigation practices. NRM South will not fund water extraction or water efficiency initiatives from the Caring for our Country Sustainable Agriculture Stream, but will focus on building landholder capacity to wisely manage irrigated water. Fishing and aquaculture are also important industries for southern Tasmania and NRM South will work with fishers and aquaculturalists to facilitate the adoption of sustainable practices and improvements in productivity and innovation both at sea, within terrestrial processing plants and on land adjoining marine farming activities. We also expect some expansion of on-farm forestry either for logging or carbon credits and will work with farmers to encourage sustainable practices for plantations on their land.
