This submission presents the complete chromosome-level genome assembly of the Shanhu grouper, a hybrid species with significant implications for aquaculture and genetic research. Utilizing advanced sequencing and assembly technologies, including Illumina, PacBio, SMRT, and Hi-C, we achieved a comprehensive genome assembly with a total length of 1.17Gb, characterized by a scaffold N50 of 46.12 Mb. The genome comprises 24 chromosomes, assembled from 171 contigs, with a GC content of approximately 41.38% and heterozygosity rate of 1.7%. Our annotations identified 26,102 genes along with numerous repeat sequences and non-coding RNAs. Further analysis explored the evolutionary relationships among economically important groupers, highlighting a close genetic link between the brown-marbled grouper and the camouflage grouper. These findings underscore the genetic viability and the potential for future hybridization strategies in grouper aquaculture.
