资源简介:
Molecular oxygen is anomalous in the sense that its ground state is in a spin triplet state, instead of settling in a singlet state like many other common molecules usually do. A muonium atom therefore can exchange its electronic spin with an oxygen molecule and be depolarized. But what if it interacts with oxygen in a singlet state? The spin exchange interaction should not take place. Or, does it form a radical state, such as MuO2, because of a vacant electronic orbital in the singlet state? This proposal aims to answer this question using the photoexcited muSR technique. Laser light can excite a photosensitizer molecule in aqueous solution, which subsequently excites a triplet oxygen molecule and generate a singlet state.
