GE852 is a dataset created by the Indian Institute of Technology Tirupati. It holds metadata for 852 game engines, most of which are developed using Java and C++. The dataset is mined from GitHub, covering metadata items such as commits, pull requests, and issues. During its construction, keyword screening was first conducted, followed by programming language filtering and manual validation to ensure the dataset's quality. GE852 is designed to support empirical research on game engines, addressing complexity-related challenges in game development including API usage, code quality, and code reuse, and providing scientific underpinnings for game engine selection and development.
