Association of house dust fungal communities with health and environmental characteristics

Researchers at The Ohio State University obtained house dust samples from New York City apartments and measured fungal communities using quantitative polymerase chain reaction and next-generation sequencing. Fungal measures were tested for association with a) atopic outcomes in children, b) occurrence of gastrointestinal symptoms in children, and c) association with home environment characteristics. These analyses were secondary analyses of materials from the New York City Puerto Rican Asthma Project conducted by Columbia University (see Acosta et al, 2008 in Journal of Asthma, 45(1):51-57).
