The faunal remains analyzed in this study derive from excavations that were undertaken by the University of New Mexico in 1979. The materials were recovered from a 5 X 5 m test unit that had been placed in a midden area along the northern edge of the site. Deposits in this area were characterized by a relatively dense accumulation of stratified trash that had depths up to 3.4 meters. Due to the large volume of animal bone that was obtained from these excavations, the dataset only includes those materials from the northwest quadrant of the test unit.
