JEFFERSON COUNTY STUDY

The Jefferson County Study seeks to understand the impact of student busing programs during school desegregation on the political and ideological views, social attitudes, and racial attitudes of those who attending high school in Jefferson County, Kentucky during the 1970s. The study was conducted with two groups, those who attended high school in Jefferson County, Kentucky and were randomly bused based on their first initial of their last name and those who also attended high school in Jefferson County, Kentucky during the same time period but were not bused. The study was conducted by NORC at the University of Chicago for researchers from Northwestern University, University of Maryland and the University of Texas at Austin. Primary funding for the study was provided through NSF and a grant from the Russell Sage Foundation.
