Deciphering the Role of Oral-Placental and Vaginal-Placental Microbiome Axes in Preterm Birth

In this study, we performed 16S rRNA gene sequencing to investigate the composition of the placental and oral microbiome in samples collected from 18 women who delivered preterm (PTB) and 36 age-matched controls who delivered at term (TB) participating in the Molecular Signature of Pregnancy (MSP) study. Additionally, leveraging on our previously published data of the vaginal microbiome of the same study subjects, we investigated the relationships between the oral-placental and vaginal-placental axes in both groups
