Familienmonument

So-called family monument in the park of Schönbrunn Palace by Franz Thaler from 1802. On a granite pillar is a bronze vase. The front is decorated by a medallion with portraits of the queen and four of her children. On the back the inscription about the devotion of Maria Karolina to her mother. Maria Karolina, daughter of Maria Theresa and Queen of Naples, had this monument erected when she was in Schönbrunn fleeing from Napoleon. Inscription: "To the filial tenderness for the immortal Maria Theresa, to the love for the dear fatherland, to the joyful recollection of every pleasure of carefree youth, dedicated this rural monument, on the place she once cared for as a child, now in the circle of her children Maria Carolina, Queen of the Two Sicilies, at her presence in the year MDCCCII."
