The first detection of Anaplasma bovis, Bartonella krasnovii and Bartonella sp. in libyan jird (Meriones libycus)

Anaplasma and Bartonella, as zoonotic pathogens, are widely distributed in a variety of natural hosts. However, these two kinds of pathogens haven't been reported in Libyan jird (Meriones libycus). In this study, we harvested 80 Libyan jirds from the Junggar Basin followed by dissected, DNA extraction and PCR amplified. All samples were tested for the presence of Anaplasma with 16S rRNA gene and Bartonella with Citrate synthase A (gltA) gene. BLASTn and phylogenetic analysis showed that Anaplasma bovis (1.25%, 1/80), Bartonella krasnovii (6.25%, 3/80) and Bartonella sp. (21.25%, 17/80) were positively detected. This is the first detection of A. bovis, B. krasnovii and Bartonella sp. from Libyan jirds in China, which extend host and geography range of three pathogens.
