Histone modification is a critical epigenetic regulatory mechanism that is under-explored in cholestatic liver disease. Lysine 27 on histone 3 (H3K27) is a key regulatory residue that can be acetylated by the histone acetyltransferase (HAT) p300, which acts as a transcriptional coactivator.
