The exploitation of cellular machinery by SARS-CoV-2 determines the progression and outcomes of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Here we use a comparative transcriptomic method to study hACE2 dependent and independent signaling in lung epithelial cells, revealing gene expression profile associated with virus copy number in the host.
