Ustilaginoidea virens UV2

Rice false smut, caused by Ustilaginoidea virens (Cke.) Tak., is an important grain disease in most rice-growing areas of the world. In general, false smutty grains of rice are green. In 1987, white false smutty grains were first found in a paddy filed in a Shenyang suburb, and the pathogenic fungus causing white false smutty grains was named as Ustilaginoidea albicans S. Wang et J. K. Bai sp. nov. In September 2020, rice false smutty grains were found in the paddy filed in Donggang, Liaoning Province. To understand the difference between U. virens and U. albicans and the molecular mechanisms involved in host-pathogen interactions, the genome sequence of UV2, a strain of U. virens, was completely sequenced.
