In 2013, Clean Lakes Alliance (CLA) launched a Citizen Water Quality Monitoring pilot.
Objectives included evaluating and tracking nearshore water quality conditions on all five
Yahara lakes: Lakes Mendota, Monona, Waubesa, Kegonsa and Wingra. In 2016, in order to fully
understand the interaction between the offshore and nearshore environment, CLA volunteers
will begin sampling the deepest point (deep hole) of all Yahara lakes. The offshore
monitoring program will focus on two components: water clarity sampling and dissolved oxygen
and temperature measurement. Data from the offshore monitoring program will be compared to
data from the nearshore program.
