A variety of samples were examined at two separate times (2007 and 2009) from sites
5DA1656 and 5DA2703 at the Reuter-Hess Reservoir, central Colorado. Pollen/starch analysis
was conducted on sediment samples, ceramic sherds, and metate fragments. The ceramic
sherds and metate fragments also were examined for phytoliths and for organic residues using
Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR). Fill from hearths at each site were floated to
recover charred macrofloral remains. Charcoal fragments from the macrofloral samples and
from individual charcoal samples were identified and submitted for AMS radiocarbon dating. A
bone antler also was processed for AMS radiocarbon dating. The various archaeobotanic
analyses will be used to provide subsistence information concerning plant and animal resources
utilized by the site occupants.
