To explore change in motivation, strategies and reflective behaviors from self-reflection and study during the clinical clerkship, a questionnaire composed of seven questions was created (shown in Supplemental File 2). In 2019, one-on-one interviews were also conducted after qualitative data from the questionnaire from 41 participants in 2018 and 2019 were analysed. Three interviewers familiar with the CBCC but not engaged in the assessment of Year 5 students conducted interviews in order to encourage interviewees to openly articulate their own perceptions. Twelve students in the 2019 PIF-SRL group consented to participate in interviews conducted in a semi-structured manner using an interview form with similar questions to those in the questionnaire (shown in Supplemental File 2). The interviewers were instructed beforehand by the main author (YM) to obtain data about changes in perception regarding motivation, strategies and reflective behaviours after experiencing PIF-SRL.
