Effect of nicotinamide riboside on the intestinal microbiota of mice with aortic aneurysms and dissection

Nicotinamide riboside (NR) has the ability to reduce inflammatory responses, attenuate oxidative stress, and modulate the intestinal microbiota. NR plays a role as a protective substance in a variety of cardiovascular diseases; however, its effects on aortic aneurysm and dissection (AD) and the underlying mechanisms have not been fully elucidated. In the present study, we induced an AD mouse model with beta-aminopropionitrile (BAPN). NR by oral gavage prevented and treated AD. In addition, NR modulated the gut microbiota and improved the intestinal barrier function in AD mice.
