Transcriptional response of Vibrio parahaemolyticus to allyl isothiocyanate (AITC)

Vibrio parahaemolyticus RIMD2210633 was culture in heart infusion 37 celsius with shaking until the OD600 reached approximately 1.5. Then, AITC was added at final concentrations of 0, 25, or 50 micrograms per milliliter, with three replicates per concentration. After further incubation for 2 hours at 37 celsius with shaking, the bacterial cells were collected for total RNA extraction using TRIzol Reagent. Complementary DNA libraries were constructed and sequenced on the Illumina HiSeq platform at GENEWIZ Biotechnology, Suzhou, China. Gene expression profiles of Vibrio parahaemolyticus cultured without AITC served as the reference group, while those exposed to 25 or 50 micrograms per milliliter AITC comprised the experimental group. Differentially expressed genes were defined as those with higher 2-fold change in expression and a p value less than 0.05.
