The study applied a user-sensitive inclusive research approach to re-design and implement the digital platform ‘I co-research’ for individuals with a mild intellectual disability (MID) or low literacy (LL). Qualitative data were gathered through semi-structured interviews and usability tests. Fourteen individuals with MID participated in the re-design phase. Two participants were included in their role as a co-researcher with a MID. Seven participants were included via the organization they receive care from. The remaining five participants were involved from a consultancy firm specialized in supporting the development of digital healthcare innovation and involving the target group. For the implementation phase, secondary data from the COVID-19 monitor study was used, the recruitment process resulted in a panel of 26 people with diverse ages and genders consisting of four people with MID or LL skills, fourteen experts by experience (i.e., someone with lived experience of MID or LL, trained to support peers in research and data collection processes and twelve professionals supporting these groups.
