Vacation and travel habits of the West German population in 1987 as
well as vacation plans for the next season. The content of the study is
largely comparable with the rest of the travel analyses. Main focus of
this travel analysis are activities on vacation.

Topics: frequency of vacation in the last three years; destination
areas; remaining at place of vacation or tour; same destination each
year; type of vacation; psychological demands of a vacation; travel
month; duration of vacation; time of travel decision; sources of
information and use of travel agency; point in time of booking and
payment; place of booking and services booked; form of travel
organization and means of transport used; type of lodging as well as
meals on vacation; meal service booked before start of trip; travel
companion; total expenditures for vacation travel; personal activities
and athletic activities at place of vacation; desired improvements in
offered leisure possibilities; sources of information for activities at
place of vacation; excursions; facilities missed at place of vacation;
satisfaction with vacation; information on second or third vacation
trips; preference up to now and future interest in various forms of
vacation; preferred vacation regions at home and abroad; frequency of
short vacation trips; assessment of development of financial situation
of household; assessment of vacationer of today; interest in vacation
travel in 1988; possession of sport equipment.

The following question was posed to those not traveling: year of last
vacation travel and preferred manner of spending a vacation.

Demography: age; sex; marital status; number of children; ages of
children (classified); religious denomination; school education;
occupation; occupational position; employment; household income; size
of household; composition of household; respondent is head of
household; characteristics of head of household; living together with a
partner; number of persons in household with their own income; having a
yard; car possession; citizenship; willingness to participate in a
similar re-interview.
