Response of Undergraduates towards Media messages promoting Abstinence Faithfulness and Condom Use (A case study of Delta State University Abraka)

The study examined the Response of Undergraduate to Media Messages Promoting Abstinence Faithfulness, and condom use, as it applies to their sex-related choices. The objective of the study is to evaluate how the media campaigns have influenced undergraduate in relation to their choices in sexual behaviours. The study is hinged on the uses and gratification theory which poses that Media use is motivated by needs and goals that are defined by the audience themselves. The survey method was used while questionnaire was used as the instrument for data gathering. The data were analyzed with the simple percentage, tables and bar charts, of which the data derived was used to answer the Research Question. The findings revealed that the Response of these undergraduates were largely in the affirmative with the ABC concept as 60.625% (97) gave credence to Abstinence, 25.625% (41) said faithfulness, 12.5% (20) condom use while 1.25% (2) of them where indifferent to the campaign messages. It was however recommended that the ABC campaign planners should ensure that the messages are more participatory by incorporating more avenues for feedback, so as so to know how to better influence their perceptions about the campaign messages.
