Investigating the diversity-stability relationship in the gut microbiota

We used the mouse gut microbiota to investigate the ecological theory that diverse communities are more stable during perturbation. The samples in this BioProject are 16S rRNA gene characterizations of the fecal microbiotas of mice with SPF (typical) and a low-diversity synthetic microbiota from seven sampling timepoints before, during, and after perturbation with the small intestinal nematode Heligmosomoides polygyrus bakeri. The low-diversity community ("PhyLo11B") was designed to represent the phylogenetic diversity of an SPF mouse gut microbiota with reduced richness of just 11 bacterial species.
