In this study, we used transcriptome sequencing to obtain a large number of differentially expressed genes and correlated them with the differential metabolites obtained from metabolome assays. The effects of FOS and GOS on growth and metabolic capacity of Bifidobacterium animalis were firstly probed from two levels of causes and results to identify key gene targets, metabolites and metabolic pathways. This study focused on a comprehensive insight into the mechanism of promoting probiotic growth through prebiotics and provided some practical data for further screening of potential candidate genes.
