Hydrographic Data for Indian Ocean (1906-1996)

NIO-Hydro-CD, developed by Indian Oceanographic Data Center(IODC)
of the National Institute of Oceanographic(NIO) Goa, India,
contains historical data on water column characteristics in the
Indian Ocean, including the Arabian Sea, Lakshadweep Sea, Bay of
Bengal, Andaman & Nicobar Sea, Red Sea, Gulf of Oman and Persian
Gulf. A part of the data was collected by NIO oceanographers on
board the research vessels R.V. Gaveshani(GV) and ORV Sagar
Kanya(SK) during the period 1976-1996. The rest of the data are
taken from World Ocean Database 1998 CD(WOD98-04). The latter have
been split into two parts: Northern Indian Ocean (Equator-30
degree North) and South Indian Ocean(33 Sout -Equator). Altogether
there are 25291 profiles(9270 from NIO including the
data from EEZ region and 16021 from WOD98-04CD) collected
1906-96. These data cover the following variables: temperature,
salinity, dissolved oxygen, nitrate, nitrite, phosphate, ammonia,
silicate, pH, and alkalinity. An interface software developed in
visual basic is also available in the CD. This can be used for
visualization and retrieval of the data on window operating system.
