Edited FASTA alignment of mtDNA sequences from the Western Palaearctic Hyles euphorbiae complex (HEC; Lepidoptera: Sphingidae)

Alignment (FASTA format) of partial sequences of mitochondrial genes COI/II and interjacent tRNA-leucine from 889 specimens of the Hyles euphorbiae complex (HEC; Lepidoptera: Sphingidae) from various localities covering virtually its entire Western Palaearctic distribution range (Macaronesia, Maghreb, Europe, Middle East, Western Asia).<br><br>From the original sequences (see Genbank accession numbers in Tab. S1 of the associated publication: Mende et al., 2016, Scientific Reports), base positions with &gt;10 ambiguities in the total alignment were deleted from all sequences and the few remaining ambiguities at non-informative sites were overwritten to the respective base at their particular locus and those at parsimony-informative sites to the most common base of the corresponding haplogroup. The present alignment includes the deleted positions within the sequences ("?") for coherence of the sequence and easy inference of base triplets; all calculations of the associated publication were done without "?" positions. <br><br><br>key to file:<br><br>&gt;XXX- (= abbreviation of pooled populations; corresponds to abbreviations in Figs. 1, 3 and 7 and Tab.
