Prescribed burns reduce the fungistatic effects of herbicide application on soil fungal communities in a Mediterranean-type woodland.

Prescribed burning and herbicide application are being utilised as methods of invasive species management in a threatened ecological community, but the effect on belowground soil fungal communities has not been widely explored. Soil samples were collected from areas with prescribed burn and/or herbicide application in the Banksia woodland of Kings Park and Bold Park, Perth, Western Australia. These were subjected to high throughput sequencing to describe the fungal communities present.
