资源简介:
The type of research to be conducted is qualitative research, aimed towards the nature CSR initiatives that the mining sector offers in Botswana, Africa and the globe, particularly to the people living in the immediate periphery of the mining sites; exploring best practices in regards to what other nations have done and building on that to ideate and simulate possible innovations around improvements that could revolutionalise both public policy and social impact delivery in the form of CSR as well as measurement. Convenience sampling will be used on the population size, as (Etikan & Musa, 2015) suggest that this sampling method is based on set criteria. In this case, the set criteria would be accessibility as there are already underlying circumstances due to Covid-19; the country has limited operations of activities in organisations to a maximum of 30% of the workforce. Another factor that was considered is the unpredictability of the rate at which the nation's government places lockdowns.
That coupled with the fact that there is no information readily available on public policy regulating social impact as the Botswana Bureau of Standards (BOBS) is currently working on a policy to regulate and standardise social impact for the nation. I will be using questionnaires and interviews as data collection tools to thematically analyse data collected, the reason being that a majority of the respondents are not based in my immediate environment; this will give me enough coverage to contact stakeholders involved in social impact delivery. These tools were also considered looking at the affordability of production as well as the ease of distribution via the web means such as LinkedIn and telephone calls, where a sample size of 51 individuals was randomly selected, 4 experts in the business and community development field can be identified; these experts are from mining organisations such as Debswana, Lucara and Majwe. Apart from that, there is expectation to involve 49 individuals affected by the mining sector, particularly around the area of operation; the majority of people located around mining sites are the Basarwa, and as a marginalised group, a majority of them have low levels of education, as such collection of data from those in the group who are categorised as youth (20-35 years). The focus on the youth is specifically because (O'Neill, 2021) suggests that in a country like Botswana, 35.56% of youth are unemployed. Furthermore, (Pheko & Molefhe, 2016) highlight that Botswana’s skilled and unemployed youth have had the previledge to be granted educational loans by the government, with varying payment plans. These graduates are often first-generation graduates, whom their families have expectations of financial reliability post-graduation; more often than not their unemployment results in the family being disappointed in them. The unemployed youth in Botswana is faced with different social challenges, mostly resulting from the mental implications of severe unemployment and expectations; whether self or societally imposed.
