Characterising the Metabolic Signatures of Malaria Infection in Human Blood

This thesis explores the metabolic signatures of malaria infection in human blood and how malaria infection alters metabolism in red blood cells. The research includes clinical studies that revealed candidate markers of malaria infections in patient samples, in addition to lab-based studies to show how malaria parasites disturb red blood cell metabolism. This work improves our understanding of host-parasite interactions and may support the development of portable, field-based tools for malaria diagnosis and treatment monitoring.
