The data currently being gathered relate to faecal samples from Scottish sheep and dairy cattle populations. These samples are tested for the presence of Escherichia coli. Further testing will establish the subtype - e.g. O157 and non-O157 STEC - and will identify which stx genes are present. Ultimately, a subset of samples will undergo Whole-genome Sequencing.
