Large scale ESTs from Sugar beet has essentially been the effort of Max-Planck Institute. Apart from increasing the sugar yield, resistance to various diseases and pests has been the focus of their study. USDA/ARS/Sugar Beet and Bean Research Unit, Michigan State University is involved in studying gene expression in sugar beet to develop better germplasm with good agronomic potential.
