Rhodosporidium diobovatum strain:UCD-FST 08-225 Genome sequencing and assembly

Rhodosporidium diobovatum 08-225 is an oleaginous marine red yeast, isolated from southern Florida, USA. Like many other species in the same genus, R. diobovatum is capable of producing carotenoids, such as -carotene, torularhodin, and torulene in varying concentrations (Sperstad et al., 2006). These biopigments are important in the nutraceuticals and food industry. R. diobovatum is also capable of utilizing waste materials, such as glycerol derived from biodiesel plants, wastes from palm oil mills, and brewery waste, as its sole carbon sources (Cheirsilp & Louhasakul, 2013; Munch et al., 2015).
