Transcriptional changes in macrophages infected with pathogenic cryptococcal species

Cryptococcus neoformans and Cryptococcus gattii can interact and modulate innate immune cells, including macrophages. The interaction with this phagocyte cells normally leads to the modulation of several cellular functions. The aim of this work was to evaluate processes and pathways that are affected in the macrophages by the presence of the yeasts cells. For a better understanding of the molecular mechanisms that govern such alterations on macrophage cells, a genome-scale comparative analysis of transcriptional changes in macrophages exposed to C. neoformans and C. gattii was conducted employing RNA-Seq.
