Transplant Experiment with ocean surface and bathypelagic prokaryotic communities to compare the changes in community structure of those communities exposed to the same environmental conditions

We performed a transplant experiment to compare the growth, activity and changes in DOM quality in surface and bathypelagic (~2000m depth) waters inoculated with either surface or bathypelagic prokaryotic communities and explored changes in taxonomic abundance over the course of a 13-day experiment. The experiment was divided in three treatments, surface waters (SW), surface waters enriched with inorganic nutrients (SW+N), and bathypelagic waters. Samples for the initial in situ communities and an extra treatment where we added labile carbon to the bathypelagic waters on day 9 of the experiment are also included.
