Euromaidan: Protest, Space, and National Identity in Ukraine

Euromaidan was a mass protest movement that emerged in Kyiv, Ukraine, in late 2013 after President Viktor Yanukovych suspended preparations for an association agreement with the European Union. What began as a political demonstration in Independence Square (Maidan Nezalezhnosti) quickly developed into a nationwide movement demanding democratic reforms, government accountability, and closer ties with Europe. The protests continued into early 2014 and became one of the most significant political events in modern Ukrainian history. Euromaidan is an important geographical topic because it demonstrates the complex relationship between people and place.
