This study investigates transcriptome variations in fourth stage larvae of the yellow fever mosquito Aedes aegypti from a laboratory selected strain showing elevated resistance to toxins of the bacterio-insecticide Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis. Differential transcriptome analysis between the susceptible and the resistant strains was performed using solexa next generation sequencing from cDNA tag libraries following the digital gene expression tag profiling method. Several genes and unannotated genomic regions differentially transcribed between the two strains were identified. Particular genes potentially involved in Bti resistance mechanisms were further characterized.
