Both WSFO and NMC forecasts of temperature and precipitation made gradual improvements during the 5-year period from 1973 to 1977. One notable exception occurred during 1977, when the percent correct for precipitation decreased to the 1975 value after rising sharply during 1976. WSFO temperature and precipitation forecasts continue to show an improvement over NMC guidance on a nationwide basis; however, the margin of improvement has generally decreased during the last 5 years.
