Markov models of the adverse effect of three types of potentially inappropriate prescribing

These Markov models were used in analysing the incremental costs and quality-adjusted life years associated with prescribing a potentially inappropriate drug to an older person (age >=65) compared to an appropriate alternative treatment. The three types of prescribing included were:
- Proton pump inhibitors at maximal dose for >8 weeks
- Benzodiazepine for > 4 weeks
- Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug for >3 months
