The goal is to assess the microbial community characteristics and genetic determinants of microorganisms involved in biocorrosion. Field samples from potentially biocorroded infrastructure were enriched in bioreactors for different categories of corrosion-causing microbes: methanogens, acid-producing bacteria, sulfate-reducing bacteria, and hydrogen-utilizing bacteria. Afterwards the samples were subjected to whole genome shotgun sequencing for metagenome analysis.
