资源简介:
This collection comprises images (including photographs of cremation burials), text, spreadsheets, databases, and vector data from an archaeological excavation on land south of Lakeside Avenue, Lydney, Gloucestershire. This work was undertaken by Cotswold Archaeology between January 2011 and October 2012. The earliest identified remains were several dispersed pits containing Beaker period pottery and a Middle Bronze Age cremation cemetery comprising 29 cremation burials. The main occupation of the site began in the Late Iron Age when an enclosure was established on a ridge of higher ground. The enclosure underwent several episodes of alterations throughout the Late Iron Age/Early Roman period, and in the 2nd or 3rd century AD, it was replaced by a series of smaller enclosures. A number of probable post-built structures were identified within the internal area of the earlier enclosure and a further possible post-built structure was focused on a contemporary boundary ditch to the south-west. The enclosures appeared to have fallen out of use by the 3rd or 4th centuries AD. Activity of this date was primarily agricultural, comprising elements of a field system, a possible post-line, and several curvilinear gullies.
