Gully prevention and remediation over 11,000 ha on Normanby River, Kings Plains

The Project aims to prevent new gully formation and to encourage stabilisation and remediation of existing active gully systems over an area of approximately 40,000 ha along the Normanby River including 11,000 ha of highly erodible deep alluvial terraces. These terraces already have over 850 ha of active gullies. Stock exclusion fencing will be constructed or repaired across all access points and all domestic and feral stock permanently removed from this area. Revegetation of existing gullies will be monitored. Those with little sign of natural recruitment will be seeded with locally sourced Imperata and Mnesithea seed, the two dominant species in currently remediating gullies on the river terraces. Accessible gully heads will be bunded.
