Taxonomic study on the family Marchantiaceae

We are conducting an integrative (combining morphology and phylogeny) study on the taxa of family Marchantiaceae (Marchantiophyta), especially in Asia and Oceania, in anticipation of establishing an amended classification of the family. The present study includes morphological examination on fresh and dried materials and phylogenetic analysis using integrative methods. The family is one of the most famous taxa of all bryophytes due to the inclusion of a prevalent model plant Marchantia polymorpha subsp. ruderalis which has been widely used by human since the ancient Greek era. An appropriate treatment of the family will also provide a solid foundation for the research in other field of biology.
