This study aims to describe the microbiome diversity of anaerobic protists of the family Psalteriomonadidae (Heterolobosea). Psalteriomonadids are known to host archaeal methanogenic endosymbionts in their cytoplasm. In this study, microbiomes of 14 strains of several Psalteriomonas species were screened to identify the potential methanogenic endosymbionts and to study the host specificity of these symbiotic relationships.
