In this project, large arrays of sequence-specific protein binding sites were used to recruit CENH3/CENP-A and initiate formation of centromeres on chromosome arms. The resulting dicentric chromosomes break apart to make chromosome fragments with synthetic centromeres that are transmissible across generations.
