We report the identification and complete genome sequence of a severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) strain of the newly emerged Omicron variant - SARS-CoV-2 lineage B.1.1.529 - obtained from an unvaccinated patient with symptoms of COVID-19 who had a recent travel history to Belgium from Egypt. At the time of writing, this genome constitutes the first confirmed case of an infection with the Omicron variant in Europe.
