Abstract This visual narrative accompanies The Chicken-Leg Tax project and serves as a satirical reflection on the role of humor, community, and imaginative storytelling in resilience-building practices. Through a multi-panel comic sequence, the work depicts a fictional interaction between a determined protagonist, a formal caretaker figure, and an amused observer during a routine mission to acquire food resources. The comic centers on an intentionally absurd exchange involving the conflation of multiple science-fiction traditions, culminating in accusations of "cultural appropriation against fictional civilizations." While humorous on its surface, the narrative explores broader themes of belonging, companionship, emotional recovery, and the importance of finding joy amid ongoing social and personal challenges. The work argues that laughter functions as a legitimate survival technology. In contexts where individuals experience chronic stress, discrimination, economic hardship, or social isolation, humor can create temporary spaces of safety, connection, and psychological restoration.
