The invention relates to a method for marking a tree trunk with a biodegradable aqueous solution of a marking paint which also contains an anti-corrosion agent. The method involves spraying on a tree trunk an aqueous solution of a marker dye containing 35 to 55% by weight of water and 40 to 60% by weight of glycerol with a biodegradability of up to 30 days according to OECD 301 test method， 0，05 to 1% by weight of dye， 0，1 -2% by weight of a corrosion inhibitor， however， the total amount of glycerol and water in said aqueous solution is more than 95%， preferably more than 97% by weight.
