"Galaxy of Jókai" data visualization (dataset)

Summary: The dataset was created for the interactive data visualization titled Jókai galaxisa, developed for the exhibition Az üstökös, kit önlángja végtelenbe visz opened on 11 September 2025 at the Petőfi Literary Museum. The exhibition commemorates both the 200th anniversary of the birth of Mór Jókai and the bicentenary of the foundation of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. Its aim is to present how Jókai’s oeuvre was connected to various fields of science - geography, botany, astronomy, biology, and history - and how he integrated these scientific relations into his literary work. The purpose of the data visualization is to display these interconnections in a visual form. The data was collected through teamwork, and the interactive data visualization was created by Dániel Horváth. The data visualization was presented on the Petőfi Literary Museum's Az üstökös, kit önlángja végtelenbe visz Exhibition, 2025. (https://pim.hu/kiallitas/jokai-200) Short description of the files: The file Jokai-hierarchy_public.json contains a parent–child structured dataset, in which each level of the hierarchy corresponds to a specific type of category. On the 0th level, the single root node is Jókai Mór, to whom all the books are connected. Each book is linked to its respective main characters, who in turn are connected to the real historical persons that inspired them. The categories are indicated as follows: “book” for novels, “hero” for fictional main characters, and “model” for the real-life individuals who served as inspiration for these characters. In cases where a real person influenced not only a specific character but the entire novel, this relationship is marked with the “book-model” category.
